Information used
The extension accesses the current supported YouTube video's ID, URL, title, playback position, duration and playback state to provide timestamped notes, chapters, saved clips and playback controls.
It handles notes and their timestamps, clip titles and start/end positions, playlists, manually saved chapters, display preferences and unsaved drafts. Saved note and clip positions may be displayed as markers on the YouTube progress bar.
For chapter discovery, it may read video descriptions, comments and video metadata already loaded on the YouTube page. It does not collect users' entire YouTube browsing history.
Local storage and purpose
The extension stores saved items and settings locally in Chrome extension storage (chrome.storage.local) to let users find, revisit, repeat and organize parts of videos, and to support user-initiated backup import/export. It does not currently upload notes, clip lists or browsing information to developer-operated servers, provide developer cloud sync, or require an account.
Do not assume local storage is end-to-end encrypted, automatically backed up, or synchronized between devices.
External services and sharing
- Playing and seeking a video use ordinary YouTube pages and their network communication with Google/YouTube.
- Studio requests public video thumbnail images from
i.ytimg.com. The image URL includes the video ID, and the request may reveal standard connection information such as your IP address to YouTube/Google. Note text, clip names and playlist contents are not included in this URL; the image request uses a no-referrer policy. - The extension does not automatically transmit note text, clip names or playlist contents to developer-operated servers or data brokers. Users are responsible for handling any JSON backup files they choose to export or share.
- The current product has no developer analytics upload SDK, advertising SDK, personalized advertising or user data sales.
Google/YouTube's own privacy terms govern normal use of their services. This is not an official Google or YouTube product.
User controls, retention and security
Users can view and delete saved items through the extension. A local complete JSON export includes committed notes, chapters, clips and playlists; unsaved drafts are excluded. Data can be lost if the user deletes it, removes the extension or deletes the browser profile; users should retain their own backups.
Deleting a video also removes its clips from playlists. Removing unsaved drafts requires explicit confirmation. Content-free deletion markers may remain to prevent stale writes from restoring deleted text. Exported files remain on your device independently of deletion within the extension and are managed by you.
The extension uses the Chrome permissions storage, sidePanel and scripting, and limits its site access to https://www.youtube.com/*. The extension's trusted UI and background handle private note text; it is not passed to YouTube page scripts. Absolute security or data durability is not guaranteed.
Compliance and updates
The use of information obtained through relevant Google/Chrome APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Information is used only for the extension's disclosed purpose; it is not sold or transferred for personalized advertising.
We will update this policy and relevant disclosures if data handling changes.
